On the 11th of September 2016, the School of Arts Hall was the focus for a Community Development project conducted by LocusLocus Inc., bringing alive past, present and future dimensions of The Mountain districts.
There was a great display of memorabilia and pictures of people and places from the Devils Elbow at Somersby to Pemberton’s wharf at Mangrove Creek, and all places in between including Kulnura and Peats Ridge. The event was supported by a grant from Central Coast Council, and we wish to thank Council, as well as the Dharug and Lower Hawkesbury Historical Society, Geoff Potter from Local Studies at the Gosford Branch of the Central Coast Library, and the families that generously provided pictures, paper clippings and objects for display, providing a rich stimulus for information gathering and enjoyable conversation. In fact there was more to see and read than could be fitted into the time available. Free sausage sandwiches, espresso coffee and tea and biscuits were enjoyed while Colleen Ellis skilfully scanned old photographs that had been brought in. We were able to add to our growing archive of Mountain Districts heritage and files on pioneering families. With the permission of contributors, it is planned that the archival material will be available for historical or family history research and for display
Selections from the Heritage Day display at the School of Arts Hall were shown in October in the History Tent at the Mangrove Mountain Country Fair, which was also a collection point for contributions for the Time Capsule.
